Statue of Liberty face

Lady Liberty

Enlightening the World

There are several things on my bucket list while visiting the northeast;  to see some Maine Lighthouses and to visit the Statue of Liberty.  Today, I’m checking one off the list. I book a charter with Statue citycruises to tour Statue of Liberty.    They offer two cruise options: one leaving from Liberty State Park in New Jersey and the other leaving from Battery Park in Manhattan. A little apprehensive about driving and parking in Manhattan, I opt for the New Jersey cruise.

All Aboard to Steamtown

While summering in the Poconos, The urge to travel is reaching fever pitch. But where to go? New York and Philly are about equal distance, but fighting the COVID crazed crowds just doesn’t appeal to me.  On the heels of a newly eletect president who commonly extols the virtues of his blue collar roots in Scranton,   the northeastern Pennsylvania town of 80,000 is jumping off the map.  But, what the heck is in Scraaaaatin?  A quick search and all things point to Steamtown.  Hmmm, what the heck is Steamtown? Historic Sunken Gardens – St. Petersburg

A Botanical Experience

As my winter pilgrimage to the Tampa Bay /  St. Pete area winds down, I wonder what did I do here for the past 2 months.  There are so many things left on my list.

Good Morning Dr. BBQ

Kumquat Festival -Dade City, Florida

It’s to Pie For

Florida seems to have a never-ending supply of winter festivals and I have attended and written about many.  The Manatee Festival, Brooksville Pow Wow, Gasparilla, and others.

When I hear an advertisement for the Kumquat Festival, it piques my interest.  Mainly because I ask myself, “What the heck is a kumquat?” When they announce kumquat pie and kumquat ice cream will be available, it becomes a must-see event.

Georgia Peaches

Georgia Peaches, Pecans, and Prisons

Camp Sumter at Andersonville road trip

If you add the “rural” designation to about anything I’ll probably like it. Rural Georgia is no exception.   I decide to break up my Florida pilgrimage a little and spend a few days south of Atlanta in the Upper Coastal Plains region of Georgia.  I’m stationed in Elko, GA in a campground that I have visited before.
