Kentucky Horse Park – Lexington, KY

It is all too easy for someone as impatient and restless as I to overlook some of the best things our country has to offer that are right under my nose.  The Kentucky Horse Park would certainly fall into this category.  I round out the 2018 travel season for a couple of weeks at the Horse Parks’ campground. There have been horses on this ground for more than 200 years. In 1777, Patrick Henry, then Governor of Virginia, granted 9,000 acres of land in the Kentucky Territory to his brother-in-law as[…]

Lake Powell, AZ

I have seen photos of Lake Powell with the houseboats floating on insanely blue water with the sheer red cliffs behind them. In such, recreating that scene has long been on my bucket list.  After a little research beforehand, the cost of the boat and the logistics of such is going to be a pretty big endeavor for a solo team of man and dog.  I haven’t given up on the idea, but regretfully it’s not looking like a probability. Grand Canyon – Small World While hiking the Grand Canyon, I pause in a shady[…]

Georgia Beaches & Peaches

Barbie Beach – Trying to find a “Peach” connection in December is a bit of a challenge. I check out Peachtree City in search of something peachy but am quickly diverted from my peach hunt once I learn of Barbie Beach. I am not far outside of Atlanta and nowhere near the ocean. The Beach is just outside of Peachtree City in Turin, GA. The Beach is a popular attraction for locals and has even been the subject of a Cannes film festival documentary. Barbie Beach intrigues me and is[…]

Taking the Leap…

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” – Andy Warhol I have long had the burning desire to go, to see and to explore.  This blog is a small reflection of that; as  I have made a concerted effort to document my wanderlust.  Today is a little different.  Today is the day I become a digital nomad, full-time traveler, an Escapee.   I am officially jobless & homeless.  That is obviously a bit dramatic but I just like saying it.   I have for months (maybe[…]

Spooktacular, Fort Boonesborough Campground

Halloween Spooktackular Begins  – The much anticipated Halloween week is off to shaky start. Fort Boonesborough Campground is beyond busy and cars are haphazardly parked everywhere. Immediately I notice my designated camp site is very uneven, with an uphill slope right as you would step out of campers door.  To maximize the flatter space,  precision placement on the concrete pad is paramount.  The layout will require backing up toward the passenger side creating a huge blind spot for me. My best laid plans go awry and I’m practically jack-knifed and[…]

The Cleansing

It’s time to simplify, declutter and just generally refocus. I have become a prisoner of stuff.  If I want to ever engage in the travel lifestyle I desire, I’ll have to be able to do with much less. My mission as a minimalist starts with a good closet cleaning.  1, 2, 3 trips to Goodwill later; bag after bag of some barely worn clothes is gone. It is embarrassing; how did I gather so much crap in just a few short years since the last move? It’s got to go![…]
