Travel Trailer Options

While competing in a Splash Dog competition at the Kentucky Horse Park, I notice Bluegrass RV had various models of RV’s, Campers and Travel Trailers on display.  Between heats, I wander around admiring the huge selection of RV’s and maybe dreaming a bit of embarking on the RV Life.

About that time, a tremendous thunderstorm blows through. Prompted by the wind, hail, and rain, I dive into the nearest camper I could find.

The camper proves to be quiet homey as I watch Murphy sniff out every nook and cranny.  I ponder IF I ever got a camper I’d like an outdoor kitchen. Visions of travel and adventure begin to overtake my thoughts. And so it begins, a tsunami of options to consider. Manufacturers, floor plans, gross vehicle weights, towing capacities, 5th wheel vs travel trailer, Queen vs King, bunks vs foldouts and on and on.  Quickly my visions of grandeur soon meet with my budget and I begin to temper my desires. The campfires and s’mores will have to wait.

Every cloud has a silver lining

About 18 months earlier, I was riding my bike on the outskirts of town.  A hurrying large pickup truck towing a horse van, clips me and sends me to the pavement.  Though, banged, battered, scraped and bruised, I am lucky.  I see all the ads for accident settlements on TV so I  retain an attorney and hope to recoup medical expenses and bike repair.

I am astonished when a settlement is finally offered. It was almost to the penny the cost of Dutchmen Aerolite Travel Trailer that I had already determined fits my needs.

The Flying Dutchman debuts

Ironically the Flying Dutchman is a legendary ghost ship that can never make port and is doomed to sail the oceans forever. That just has a certain ring and appeal to it.

So now, I embrace the RV Life taking on new adventures bound to travel America’s Highways and byways forever searching for that perfect port.
