Curious Craig - Space Weather Supergraphic

NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center Boulder, CO

Heatwave predicted for sun

Space weather? What is space weather? Upon entering the US Department of Commerce compound a combat uniformed gentleman flags me to stop.  He instructs me to open the drivers’ door and to drop my tailgate. Upon complying, his German Sheppard runs up and over and through my truck. I’ll have some explaining to do to Murphy. I proceed into the nearby visitors center as the explosives dog continues his search. […]

US Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs

Aim High, Fly-Fight-Win

After high school, I visit an Air Force recruiter only to learn my eyesight would prevent me from flying for the Air Force. With that, I’ve always had an affinity and admiration for this particular military branch and its members. I’m excited to visit what might have been if only I had been smarter and had better vision; the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. […]

Arches and Canyonlands, Moab Utah

Arches and more

Moab, Utah, is a small resort town that has its share of tourist attractions: small shops, restaurants, galleries, craft breweries and the like. Further, it is surrounded by stunning red rock landscapes that alone make this a desirable vacation destination.  But the Arches and Canyonlands National Parks along with the cool waters of the Colorado River make it one of the most sought-after destinations in the American Southwest.  The town bustles for those wanting to experience the outdoors. The main street is lined with guide services, outfitters,  jeep, ATV, raft and bike rental shops.  The town just buzzes with activity and it is contagious, it’s almost impossible to relax here when there is so much to see and do. Skiing Utah’s Pink Sands – in June

Coral Pink Sand Dunes

When embarking on my Supergraphic challenge, I scan ahead and I see a few locations will take some creative license to complete. Utah Skiing is one of them.  I have skied once in my life and hated it.  If there is anything I hate more than skiing it’s being cold.  I could, however, take advantage of the huge mounds at Coral Pink Sand Dunes for some winter-like fun in the 80-degree sun. […]

Zion, Red Canyon and Bryce a Photo Journal

Zion, Utah’s first National Park

The Paiute Indians call Zion, Mukuntuweap, meaning canyon or straight up land”. This is an excellent description. When entering the park, sheer red Navajo sandstone walls surround me.  I almost have a feeling of floating as the walls seemingly rise as the winding roads descend. This vertigo effect is a sensation that I find impossible to capture with photos and videos. […]
