Tennessee - Chattanooga.jpeg

Pardon me, boy

Chattanooga is a layover stop en-route to Florida.  The only thing I know about Chattanooga is from the song of choo-choo fame.  We stay at the Lavender and Lace room at a charming Bed and Breakfast, the Garden Walk Inn in nearby Lookout Mountain.

The gloomy raining winters day begins with a walking tour of downtown. We cross the Walnut Street bridge traversing the Tennessee River. A dog statue serves as greeter and talisman offering a high four before crossing into a small shopping district on the other side.Tennessee - Chattanooga-Dog-.jpg

Unfortunately, not a whole lot is open today but I find a great doughnut shop, Julie Darlings. The owner is more than accommodating and allows me to step behind the cases and assist in the frying of some awesome donuts.

I particularly enjoy an Arts Project of Dancing Down Frazier Avenue. Various dance steps are embedded in the sidewalk. It’s impossible to walk over them without at least a little extra spring in your step.  I just might downright break into a Hokey Pokey.

Lookout Mountain – Rock City

Traveling in the south one can’t miss the signs encouraging you to pull off the Interstate to see 7 states from atop Lookout Mountain. Lookout Mountain is a mountain ridge located at the northwest corner of Georgia, the northeast corner of Alabama, and along the Tennessee state line in Chattanooga.

Along with other area attractions: Rock City and Ruby Falls, the  area offers plenty to see and do for a day trip.  The trails through the rock ledges offer many spectacular panoramic views. A summer trip would offer a bit more foliage for viewing, however.
